Kathmandu. The film ‘Agnidahan’, which is being screened since Friday, has premiered in Kathmandu. The film received a positive response at the ceremony.
Director and music composer Narayan Rayamazhi said that more films like this should be made as witchcraft still exists in the village.
Politician Shankar Tiwari said that at a time when there is a trend of showing only the problem but not the solution in most of the films, in ‘Agnidahan’, both the problem and the solution are shown in depth.
Actor Viren Shrestha said that the film shows how far a person’s thoughts can take him. He praised the old story for being accurately presented.
Director and actor Naresh Paudyal said that the film has dealt a terrible blow to the terrible corruption prevalent in the society. Artist Lokendra writer said that ‘Agnidahan’ is a strong voice raised against social malpractices and especially against the practice of witchcraft. Artist Tej Giri praised the life gained by leaning on the dead body of another and politics gained by leaning on the dead body of another will never bring peace in life.
The visionary Kovidsharan Upadhyay informed that soon the film will be screened in the Terai district which borders with India. “Wherever we went, everyone said witches were superstitions”, he said.
Upadhyay said that he made the film because it would be effective in making people aware that they have done various things against the practice of witchcraft. He claimed that the film has been effective in raising awareness against such heinous crimes and bad practices as beating women in the name of ‘witches’, feeding excrement, burning them alive, and evicting villages.
Directed by Ghanshyam Lamichhane, the film stars Prakash Ghimire, Pramila Tulachan, Maotse Gurung, Anupama Bhandari, Tulsi Chhetri, Vishnu Bastola, Tara Bahadur Gurung.
The film has story, screenplay and dialogues by Lokmani Paudel, concept by Kovidsharan Upadhyay, assistant direction by Pariparchad Sen, cinematography by Dilg Gurung, editing by Dilg Khadka, production design by Shankar Pandey. The film has also been given a ‘Special Movie Award’ by the Film Development Board.
