Kathmandu. Science fiction film ‘Kalki: 2898 AD’ and Netflix series ‘Hiramundi: The Diamond Bazaar’ have been declared as the most popular Indian films and series in 2024 respectively.
IMDb, the famous database portal of world films, has published this list, in which these two films and series are at the top. IMDb has released this data based on 250 million monthly page visitors.
This film list reflects India’s multilingual entertainment landscape, with 7 Hindi-language films, Telugu (Kalki), Tamil (Maharaja) and Malayalam (Manjummel Boys). The top 10 also includes ‘Stree 2: Sarkateka Tehran’, ‘Bhulbhulaiyaa 3’ and ‘Singham Again’.
Nag Ashwin, the director of ‘Kalki: 2898 AD’, has attributed the film’s success to the audience spread across the world. “We put our soul into the film and it’s heartening to see it resonate with people of all ages across the world,” he said.
On the streaming side, Netflix and Prive Video dominate with 3/3 titles. Netflix’s ‘Hiramundi: The Diamond Bazaar’, ‘Mamla Legal Hey’ and ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ are in the top 10. At the top of the list is the Manisha Koirala starrer series ‘Hiramandi’. Prime Video’s ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Panchayat’ and ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ are also on the list.
The film ‘Lapata Ladies’, included in the film list, has been nominated for the Oscar Award from India this year. Yamini Patodia, head of India at IMDb said, ‘These lists showcase the incredible appeal of Indian storytelling that captivated global audiences this year.’
