Kathmandu. Former US President Barack Obama publishes a list of his favorite movies, music and books every year. This list of his also gets worldwide discussion.
This time, his choice has garnered attention, especially in India. In terms of films, the film on the top of his choice is ‘All We Imagine as Light’, a film by Indian director Payal Kapadia.
This film was screened at the Human Rights Film Festival held in Kathmandu last week and won an award. In this year’s Golden Globes, this film has also been selected in the best film category.
This film has won the Grand Prix award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It is an Indian Malayalam language film, which tells the story of three women living together in Mumbai as they struggle with their own challenges, desires and problems.
Starring Kani Kasruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam, the film tells the story of Mumbai nurse Prabha (Kani Kusruti), who receives an unexpected gift from her husband. Then there is the entry of Anu (Divya Prabhu), who is struggling to find a private place in the city to spend some private time with her lover. Prabha’s best friend Parvati (Chhaya Kadam) is a widow who fights with a builder who wants to demolish her slum house.

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Squabble Up’ tops Obama’s music list. This list includes ‘Launch’ by Billy Ellis, ‘Yoyo’ by Rema, ‘Active’ by Asek and Travis Scott, ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ by Beyoncé. At the top of the list for books are Jonathan Hyde’s ‘The Anxious Generation’.
