Kathmandu. Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap has decided to leave Mumbai. Indian media reported that he said this in a recent interview.

He also said that he has lost the enthusiasm to make films. He believes that the artist’s talent agency is responsible for this. He alleged that the agency emphasized on making stars rather than making artists.

He expressed concern about the trend of making remakes in the film industry and also said that he did not get the opportunity to do new work. Anurag said that he cannot go out and make new and different kinds of films these days, as everything depends on money, he argues.

‘Where the producer thinks only about profit and margin,’ he said, ‘before the film is made, the producer thinks about how to sell it. So the excitement of making films here is over and next year I am planning to leave Mumbai and shift to South.’

‘I want to go there, where everyone is eager to work,’ Kashyap said in the interview, ‘otherwise I will die as an old man. I am frustrated and tired of my industry. I am shocked by their thinking.’

Commenting on the thinking of Hindi cinema, Anurag said that he cannot make a film unless there is a remake of ‘Manjummel Boys’. He was also angry with the artist’s talent agency.

Anurag said, ‘It is very difficult to work with first generation actors because they want to be stars. They don’t want to act. Agencies do not make anyone a star in the beginning, but the moment an actor becomes a star, they extort a lot of money from him. But their job is to find good talented actors.’

‘When a film is made, first of all they grab that actor and make him a star. Then they put wrong things in his mind. They will not send artists to workshops, but to gyms for exercise. Now it’s all glam-glam, because everyone wants to be the biggest star,’ he said.

Anurag has also accused of playing with the artist’s career. He said that once an actor left the film after hearing about the agency.

Anurag also commented on the importance of actor and star treatment in Hindi films. He compared it to the Malayalam film industry. Where the actors do not work separately but come together and work in the film. Due to which the beauty increases which is not seen in Hindi cinema.

He held the OTT streaming platform responsible for this star treatment. “Instead of making a good film with the treatment of streaming platforms, we focus on how to become stars,” he said, “Especially in Hindi films, streaming platforms came and maybe they wanted to make their place in the industry.” That’s why they brought the working style of America to India as well.’

‘What is happening now is that everyone wants star treatment, otherwise it is wrong to feel humiliated,’ Anurag continued, ‘more than half of the problem in this industry is that those people have started feeling humiliated.’

Recently, while talking to Online News during his visit to Nepal, director Kashyap lamented the style of Hindi films and said that Nepali films are developing more than Hindi films.
