Kathmandu. A one-day ‘China Film Day’ has been organized on Thursday under the aegis of Nepal Film and Cultural Academy. Actors and directors Neer Shah, Sunil Thapa, Kedar Ghimire along with people from the field of Nepali film and literature participated in the ceremony where former finance minister Varshman Pun was the chief guest.
A team of 14 members of filmmakers including Su Yang, Director of the International Department of China Film Administration, who came to participate in the program, also participated.
Speaking at the event, Leader Pun said that he was happy to participate in China Film Day organized for the first time in Nepal. He said, ‘This is a celebration of cultural relations. I believe that this will help to strengthen the relationship between our two countries through films.’
He said that the program will open the door to another possibility in the Nepali film industry. KP Pathak, chairman of the organizer Nepal Film and Cultural Academy, mentioned that the program is not only for watching movies, but also a starting point for the relationship between the two countries.
He said, ‘Nepal and China have a rich history of cooperation and such a program is also an important step to advance future relations through movies.’
Director of International Department of China Film Administration Su Yang said that Nepal is a beautiful country and a country with ancient civilization. He said, ‘We hope that through this film festival, a better relationship will be formed between China and Nepal in the use of film industry. ‘
The Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the Chinese Embassy, Wang Jin, said that in recent years, China has become the world’s biggest market for films and Chinese films are also being shot in Nepal.
He said, ‘During the visit of the Prime Minister of Nepal to China last year, an agreement was reached to hold a Chinese film festival in Nepal in 2025. This year marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal. This year is also Nepal Tourism Year. As a festival series between the two countries, this program will provide a platform for the exchange of cooperation between the filmmakers of the two countries.
Along with Su Yang, the actress of the famous Chinese film ‘G for Gap’ and two-time Golden Rooster Award winner Yu Hong, deputy director of the China Film Administration’s marketing department Zheng Zheng, head of Tiger Pictures Entertainment Owen Young, director of the film ‘Personal Persistence’ Jing Xiao, ‘Life of Luosang’s screenwriter Lu Wei and director Zhang Gudong, the film ‘Midsummer Voice’s director, Zhang Yudi, also participated.
3 Chinese films, ‘Her Story’ directed by Yihui Sao, ‘Midsummer’s Voice’ directed by Yudi Zhang and ‘G for Gap’ directed by Fei Long were screened at the program held at QFX’s Shadow Center. The program was organized by China Film Administration, Chinese Embassy, China Film Archive and Nepal Film and Cultural Academy.
Golden Rooster Award winning actress Yu Hong, who gained popularity among the audience with her performance in the film ‘G for Gap’, was also present at the event. Expressing gratitude after the screening, she said, ‘I am very happy to participate in this film festival and I hope that our films will bring the two countries closer together.’
After the film screening, the producer, director and actors of all the three films interacted with the audience. On that occasion, they said that initiatives like ‘China Film Day’ will play an important role in reducing the cultural gap between Nepal and China and promoting mutual understanding.
