Kathmandu. Deepak Rauniyar’s film ‘Seto Surya’ was released on Bansuri Films’ YouTube channel on Friday. This film, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, was also screened in theaters in 2016.
Through the story told in the background of decade long armed conflict, director Rauniyar has tried to tell a touching story of the division brought about by the conflict in Nepali society through quarrels and idolatry between brothers of the same house. Dayahang Rai and Rabindrasingh Baniyan are in the top roles.
The film stars Asha Magrati, Sumi Malla, Amrit Pariyar, Sharda Adhikari, Deepak Chhetri, Bhatsak Khanal, Ganesh Munal, Pramod Agrahari, Maotse Gurung, Pramila Tulachan, Anil Khadka and others. This film, which received good reviews both nationally and internationally, was recommended for the international feature category of the Oscars from Nepal that year.
Before the release, the producer and director had understood the idea of releasing it on the OTT platform for a fee or releasing it on YouTube for free. Rauniyar’s upcoming feature ‘Rajaganj’ was released on YouTube almost 2 months before its theatrical release on 1st March.
Rauniyar has collaborated with Rambabu Gurung’s Bansuri Films for the Nepal release of ‘Rajaganj’. Rauniyar has also directed ‘Highway’ in 2012. The famous American newspaper The New York Times also included Rauniar in the list of 9 directors to watch.
