Kathmandu. The film ‘Lho-Champa’ is going to be made based on the story of Bhutanese refugees who were forced to be displaced from Bhutan in the 1990s. The film will present the situation when the Nepali speakers were expelled from Bhutan, the sufferings of the refugee camps and the fights seen in the camps before going to the third country for resettlement. ‘Lho-Champa’ is a term used to describe the Nepalese living in the southern part of Bhutan.
The film will be produced by Arjun Subedi for Nakshatra Live Music. Producer Subedi has said that he started making the film with the aim of documenting the times he experienced for the next generation.
We have made this film with the intention that what our generation experienced from Bhutan to the refugee camps of Nepal should be preserved for future generations as well. But we will recite this story with fun,’ says Subedi.
Naresh Kumar KC of ‘Dying Candle’ fame will direct the film. This will be his third directorial film. KC had previously directed ‘Dying Candle’ and ‘Romeo and Muna’. He said that the third film will present the state of people’s amnesia and identity.
Wherever a man goes, his memory follows him. This movie also tells the story of memory and people’s identity linked to geography. Along with this, the story will also cover the dimension of immigration’, KC said.
The film will have screenplay by Samipyaraj Timalsena and music by Arjun Pokharel. Music composer Pokharel informed that the song will be prepared in a way that will be connected with the story in the film. The artists and technicians are yet to be decided. Shooting is planned from the second week of Baisakh.
