Kathmandu. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed famous American actors Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson and Jon Voight as Hollywood’s ‘special envoy’.
Trump says that he appointed them as ambassadors with the aim of making Hollywood stronger than before and returning lost business in foreign markets to the country.
Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social on Thursday, ‘It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as special ambassadors for a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California.’
He has previously written, ‘They will act as special envoys for me for the purpose of returning Hollywood, which has lost a lot of business in the last four years, to foreign countries. Hollywood will be bigger, better and stronger than before.’
‘These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will do whatever they suggest. Like the United States, Hollywood will have a golden age,’ he wrote.
Trump’s announcement came a few days before he was sworn in as president in the capital, Washington DC. In addition, it comes in the background of thousands of houses and buildings being destroyed by wildfires in the city of Los Angeles, which is considered the home of Hollywood.
Many businesses are struggling to recover and it is estimated to cost more than $250 billion. The domestic box office in 2024 also decreased compared to the previous year. Because that year, the Hollywood release calendar was affected due to the strike of writers and actors.
Stallone, Gibson and Voight have been Trump supporters in recent years. Stallone introduced the president-elect as the second George Washington at a gala event held at Trump’s Florida residence in Mar-a-Lago in November. Gibson voiced support for Trump and criticized Kamala Harris’ intelligence ahead of the 2024 election. Voight spoke in depth about Trump’s praise in a Variety cover story last year.
