The controversy started after the trailer of the documentary ‘Nayantara: Beyond the Fairy Tail’ was released on Netflix. This documentary is now on Netflix.

The 3-second video shown in the trailer was made during the shooting of the film ‘Nanum Rowdy Dhan’. A notice was issued to Nayantara after Dhanush, who is also the producer of the film, accused her of using the video without his permission.

However, Dhanush has not given any direct statement regarding Nayantara’s allegations, videos or information. Dhanush’s lawyer Arun has given his opinion on the notice.

The notice says, ‘Nayantara has not denied that the rights of Nanum Rowdy Dhan are with Wonderbar Productions. In such a situation, it is clear that Dhanush has the right to the video footage made during the shooting of the film.’

After the controversy over the 3-second video, many actresses have come out in support of Nayantara. Nayantara has shared an open letter on Instagram and X, in which actresses have liked and commented.

However, some social media users have criticized Nayantara saying that she is doing a publicity stunt for her documentary.

In a conversation with the BBC, lawyer Vetrichelbhanle talked about the Copyright Act 1957.

He said, ‘Works related to art and literature can be subject to copyright. Copyright is different for books, music and visuals.’

The lawyer said, ‘In this case, of course, the video was made during the shooting of the film, but according to the law, the filmmaker has the right to it.’
