Kathmandu. Nepal International Film Festival (NIF) has announced the lineup of the eighth edition. According to the organizer Nepal Film and Cultural Academy, 87 films from 40 countries will be screened at the festival.
This year, 700 applications from 70 countries have been received, said KP Pathak, head of the organizing organization. According to the public lineup, 12 films including Nepal’s ‘Shambala’, India’s ‘Rukmini’, China’s ‘Strangers When We Meet’ are nominated in the World Panorama category (international competition).
In the international documentary competition, 9 films from America, India, Bangladesh, Belgium, Chile and New Zealand have been selected along with Nepal’s ‘Himalayan Dreams’.
There are 32 films in the short film international competition category. In this category, there are ‘China Beast’ from Malaysia, ‘Dream Link’ from Australia, and ‘A Year Apart’ from China.
For the first time, NIF has also included a competitive category of films made with the help of artificial intelligence. In this category named ‘AI Films’, China’s ‘Every Hesitation of Yours Can Destroy the World’, Argentina’s ‘The Abyss’, France’s ‘Gold Casting’, Peru’s ‘The Dream, the Fog and the Rain’ and America’s ‘Mob Part 1’ are
For the first time, 5 films made by AI, called artificial intelligence, are going to compete in the Nepali Film Festival. Chairman Pathak said that this genre will address the increasing dominance and development of AI in film production.
4 films have been selected in the National Panorama competition of Nepali plot films. These include John Yonjan’s ‘Crawling Crows’, Dinesh Raut’s ‘Poojar Sarki’, Vinod Paudel’s ‘Bhuthan’ and Laxman Subedi’s ‘Sati Devi’. The English name of ‘Bhuthan’ is ‘The World’s Happiest Man’. This film is going to be screened earlier in NIF than in theaters in Nepal. It is said that the performance will be held in the hall on 12th Baisakh.
In the Nepali Documentary competition category, Suvina Shrestha’s ‘Devi’, Razila Shrestha’s ‘Chhesang’, Gaurav Iyer’s ‘Mukti’, Tasi Lajom’s ‘No Monastery No Village’, Deepa Shrestha’s ‘Udne Sapna’ and Luv Pyakurel’s ‘Girls Rewriting Destiny’.
19 films have been selected in the competition of Nepali short films. Nepal International Film Festival will be held in Kathmandu from Chait 7 to 11. The opening and closing films are yet to be decided.
